62nd Annual Membership Exhibition Closes: Members Choice to be Announced

The 62nd Annual Membership Exhibition of the Southwestern Watercolor Society closed on September 27 and plans are already getting underway for the next one. The reception was held in Denton on Saturday, September 20th from 1:00 to 3:00 in the afternoon. More than $9000 was awarded to the selected artists. The judge and juror of this year's exhibition was acclaimed watercolor painter, Iain Stewart, https://stewartwatercolors.com, AWS/NWS.

One more award has not yet been given out. It is the Member's Choice Award. Members were able vote one time for their favorite painting on display in the exhibition until the exhibition closed on Saturday, September 27 at 5:00 pm. The favorite selected by members will be awarded at the October monthly membership meeting on Tuesday, October 14 at 7:00 pm at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church. You won’t want to miss finding out the favorite as selected by the artist’s peers.

The high quality of the artwork that is shown in our exhibitions is the result of the caliber of artists we attract to enter. Artists could enter three works, but the juror only selected one piece by any submitting artist. That results in a highly diverse show that showed the range of painting styles and subject matter that is seen in contemporary watercolor.

Western Fed Entries Open December 15

Entries for the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies annual exhibition will open on December 15, 2025 and SWS members are invited to submit paintings. As a member of SWS, you are also a member of the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies and are eligible to enter the WFWS annual exhibition that will be held from May 8 to June 27, 2026. No entries will be accepted after February 1, 2026. The juror/judge will be Xi Guo, Signature member of American Watercolor Society and National Watercolor Society.

Please be aware that the artwork must fit into standardized mats and the selected artwork will be submitted to the exhibition by the SWS Delegate to WFWS, Gail Delger. The outside dimensions of the painting plus the mat must be one of these sizes:

16” x 20”; 18” x 22”; 20” x 24”; 20” X 27”; 22” x 22”; 22” x 28”; 24” x 30”; 24” x 36”; 27” X 35”; 30” x 30”; 30” x 40”. Because there are a number of restrictions regarding the artwork, entry submission, matting, and framing etc., be sure to follow the prospectus requirements carefully.

The Western Federation of Watercolor Societies is comprised of ten watercolor groups from most states west of the Mississippi River and the annual exhibitions are hosted by each group in succession. In 2023, SWS hosted the exhibition in Texas, and in 2026 the exhibition will be hosted by the Colorado Watercolor Society and will be held at the Curtis Center for the Arts, 2349 E Orchard Road, Greenwood Village, CO, a part of the Denver–Aurora–Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Area.
