54th SWS Annual Member Exhibition – Fall 2017
Southwestern Watercolor Society is pleased to announce it’s 54th Annual Member Exhibition to be held August 31 through September 30, 2017 at the Eisemann Center in Richardson. Entry is open to members of the Southwestern Watercolor Society (SWS), a national organization based in Dallas and celebrating its’ 54th anniversary, with 400+ members throughout the USA. SWS Membership Dues for the year 2017 – 2018 are due May 31st of each year and members with outstanding balances after June 30th, are not eligible to enter the 2017 Member Art Show. Joining/Renewing your SWS membership is required prior to entry in the 54th Annual Member Exhibition. Renewals can be made at www.swswatercolor.org/join/pay-dues All communications and notices regarding the show will be by email. More than $5,000.00 in cash and merchandise to be awarded! Entries open May 1, 2017 and the deadline for entry is June 30, 2017 at midnight.
The Preview Party will be Sunday, July 9, 2017 at the Royal Lane Baptist Church in Dallas, 2:00 - 4:00 PM.
Tribute to Jo Taylor
Late in the 1950s Jo Taylor from Pittsburg, Texas and Naomi Brotherton, strangers at the time, both knew that they would like to study Watercolor painting in the Gerry Peirce Workshop in Cloudcroft NM, so it was arranged for them to travel together. By the end or the two-week event a special new friendship was developed and in route home the enthusiastic pair agreed that Dallas should have a Watercolor organization to locally offer watercolor workshops by outstanding teachers. Robert E. Wood versus Robert Wood

n the 1960s large prints of works by oil painter, Robert Wood, were popular in home and office décor. And when the name Robert E. Wood appeared in the Dallas papers as a demonstrator for the Southwestern Watercolor Society at the DP& Light building November 11, 1967, non painters were attracted to see this man at work.
